Abstract

JIMENEZ, Julio et al. Comunidad y academia: Construyendo una intervención para reducir el estigma sentido en personas con VIH. Rev. Puertorriq. Psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.24, pp. 01-17. ISSN 1946-2026.

Various publications have emphasized the benefits of including community advisory committees into different stages of research, under the Community Based Participatory Research approach. We present the results of a qualitative study that integrated community members for the development of an intervention model to reduce HIV-felt stigma among People Living with HIV. After an initial training phase, the community members made valuable contributions to the design and interpretation of the results. Furthermore, they contributed to the identification of essential components to be incorporated into the intervention model. A new research paradigm suggests that the development of future studies should consider community members as community researchers.

Keywords : Community advisory committee; Community Based Participatory Research; HIV-felt stigma; intervention model development.
