Abstract

DIAZ-LAZARO, Carlos M.  and  TORO-ALFONSO, José. Statistical contribution of authoritarianism, social dominance, empathy, and materialism. Rev. Puertorriq. Psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.25, pp. 118-137. ISSN 1946-2026.

The contribution of authoritarianism, social dominance, empathy, and materialism on the variance of ethnocentrism, heterosexism, hostile sexism, and benevolent sexism was investigated in a general population sample in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Several standard multiple regression analyses were conducted in which the effects of social desirability and socio-demographic variables were controlled for. Authoritarianism resulted as the variable with the most significant influence in the variance of the different types of prejudices. The other independent variables contributed statistically in at least one of the models. Results are discussed in light of the literature on individual differences in intergroup prejudice.

Keywords : Intergroup prejudice; autoritarism; sexism.
