Abstract

LAZZARETTI, Claire Terezinha. Gift of contemporaneousness: organ donation in living donor transplantation. Epistemo-somática [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.1, pp. 50-61. ISSN 1980-2005.

This article´s objective is to reflect about organ donation in living donor transplantation. It has been centuries since the humanity started worrying about substituting tissues or organs with deficient functions to other healthy ones. Advances in pharmacology and surgery techniques have made possible the transplantation of a range of body parts from a donor body into the living body of a recipient. This Medical technique can symbolize a type of partial immortality because the scientific development can be considered as an answer to a collective demand front the human being’s vulnerability. In the current conditions of technological development and medical knowledge the gift acquires new dimension, the solidarity, the generosity and the altruism as justification of the donation of part of his body, it can be thought as one in the man’s ways to work with his condition of abandonment.

Keywords : Gift; Living donor; Transplantation.
