Abstract

ELIAS, Valéria de Araújo. The body beyond body: the reflections of (im) possibility. Epistemo-somática [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.1, pp. 119-136. ISSN 1980-2005.

From clinical experience with female transexuals in the hospital resulted a psychoanalytical research privileging the subjectivity processes that acted in favor of the “sex-change” demand. The exits, i.e., the solutions found, reveal that, beyond image fascination, the seek for technology in some cases traveled on double tracks: horizontally in relation to his fellow, so that the desire for another man wouldn’t be homosexual but a result of his heterosexuality; vertically, in relation to the Other of science, created in his imaginary that it is the shape of his genital that defines his sexual identity and not the Phallus, referring to the symbolic Law.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Hospital; Body; Transexualism.
