Abstract

SPIESS, Martine. From the "desire of a child" to a "product-child". Epistemo-somática [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.2, pp. 63-73. ISSN 1980-2005.

In the last decades, the obstetrics medicine developed and reinforced its diagnosis, preventive and therapeutic dispositive to fit the procreation: they control the steps of the gestation process and assurance a responsibility "technicisée" of the birth; otherwise, they respond to the infertility problems through the implantation of medical assistance technique for procreation. They dispose today of several knowledges and means that demonstrate their efficiency and domination in the fields of life transmission. In the name of this knowledge, they impose their rules, prescriptions and discourse. Believing less in the human dimension and more in the rational domination of the biological coordination of the body, the birth medicine would be committed with the procreation as a "fabrication" of the life? This evolution generates complex questions that notedly refers to: the impact of a "mechanicist" view of the birth; the relation with the child as an ideal of domination that breaks with the acceptation of the otherness; the psychic risks of maternity and paternity seems to be unknown, although the actual concerns with the perinatal period.

Keywords : Procreation; Medicalization; Domination; Subjective.
