Abstract

FREITAS, Marcel de Almeida. Soccer and male subjectivity building: readings by social psychology. Rev. bras. psicol. esporte [online]. 2007, vol.1, n.1, pp. 01-19. ISSN 1981-9145.

This article aims at emphasizing some aspects of the construction of masculine subjectivities contemplating the cultural character of this process having Brazilian soccer, a virile social phenomenon, as reference. In order to support the theory more strongly, interview extracts with team supporters from Minas Gerais, more specifically Atlético and Cruzeiro teams were provided. The methodology was based on qualitative techniques and the treatment of the data was based on the Discourse Analysis. Among the general considerations of the research exposed in this work, there are: masculinity is characterized through the collective bonds, that is, it differs from feminality because this is based on the relations face to face, and the masculine subjectivities are socialized to be violent, physically and symbolically, this aspect is a differentiation in relation to feminality.

Keywords : Masculinity; Soccer; Violence.
