VALLE, Marcia Pilla do. Coaching and resilience: possible interventions to ease the gymnastics and fences' pressure and fears. Rev. bras. psicol. esporte [online]. 2007, vol.1, n.1, pp. 01-17. ISSN 1981-9145.
This paper is due to the interest to investigate pressures and fears of athletes of high performance in individual modalities, searching data for possible interventions. Previous studies (Valle, 2003 e 2006) indicate that athletes' life isn't only training or competition, but that practice carries many paradoxes and conflicts which they have to deal with. Sport Psychology can and must help to think coping strategies to deal with these tensions in order to avoid the stress. In this investigation, six adult athletes, from the Fence and Olympic Gym Department of a club in Porto Alegre, were interviewed. All of them are from the high performance sport and have significant results, including awards and participations in international competitions. First, this work applied an adaptation of the tests "Test de las presiones del deportista de Selección" and "Test de los miedos del futbolista" (Roffé, 2004). After that an individual interview was taken with each participant to raise the motives to their choices. The analysis of the results establishes the relations between pressures and fears more commons of these athletes broadening the comprehension on how they interfere in their performances. Some strategies to the intervention to the concepts of coaching and resilience were also raised. Investigations like this paper aim to contribute with knowledge that helps to choose strategies of intervention in the Sport Psychology of the club.
