Abstract

This study aimed at examining athletes' formative years, explicitly discussing the possible contributions of Sports Psychology. The method of investigation evolved around Psychodrama precepts of Roles Theory, studying what it means to be an athlete in three young groups from a private institution of athletic formation. After this survey, the differences of three moments of sports development were analyzed (freshmen, practitioners and junior athletes), resulting on the construction of an analysis about professional athletes' formation. Children who starts practicing sports get in Role Taking fases and continue in athlete´s institution on Role Playing fases, taking progress into adults categories on Role Creating fases.
