Abstract

FRASCARELI, Lígia. The “psychological problems” of the athlete: a phenomenological look for sports experience. Rev. bras. psicol. esporte [online]. 2010, vol.3, n.1, pp. 115-129. ISSN 1981-9145.

This article aims, from the interview with a professional athlete, to know the practical experience of sports through the perspective of the athlete, having as theoretical reference the existential phenomenology. Also sought to question some of Sport’s Psychology contents, in an attempt to compare the athlete's experience with the propositions of this field of knowledge, trying to point some of its possible limits. The methodology used in the interview was to participatory intervention. It was found that the experience of sports practice experienced by athletes is absolutely singular and can be explained as a phenomenon, not as a concept. The categorizations and concepts from the traditional sports psychology were somewhat consistent with the actual experience of the athlete in the sport, and was put in question precisely the forms of actions of the sport psychologist.

Keywords : Athlete; Phenomenology; Sport psychology; Sport.
