SOUZA JUNIOR, Orlando Pereira de et al. The self-goal setting in motor skill learning. Rev. bras. psicol. esporte [online]. 2010, vol.3, n.2, pp. 71-81. ISSN 1981-9145.

This study investigated the effects of self-goal setting on motor skill learning. Fifty six individuals (men and women), without experience in the performance of the Bachman ladder task, participated in the study. In the acquisition phase, participants performed 200 trials, and in the transfer and retention phases, each performed 50 trials. The design evolved the self-set goal group (n=28) and the control group (goal set by experimenter) (n=28). The dependent variable was the amount of steps achieved in blocks of ten trials. The results permitted to conclude that the goal set by the experimenter and the self-goal setting enabled similar effects in climbing Bachman’s ladder.

Palavras-chave : Goal setting; Motor learning; Transfer; Retention; Bachman’s ladder; Self-setting goal.
