Abstract

This study theoretically discusses the relationship that can be established between the practice of judo and the moral development of children. Theoretical concepts on the moral development during childhood are presented as well as the principles of judo, characteristics, techniques and forms of education. From the understanding on the moral development, in the Piagetian perspective, this study related situations that occur in judo classes and can contribute to the practitioner of judo developing their moral autonomy. The practice of Judo as a sport based on rules and norms can collaborate to the moral development of children for using its principles in group situations, through the establishment of relations of mutual respect and cooperation. Thus, it is understood that Judo is a sportive practice that can provide physical and cognitive benefits through experiences that stimulate the integral development of children.
