MOTA, Márcia Maria Peruzzi Elia da  y  SILVA, Kelly Cristina Atalaia da. Morphological awareness and orthographic development: a exploratory study. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2007, vol.1, n.2, pp. 86-92. ISSN 1982-1247.

Among the metalinguistic abilities three seem to help children to learn to read and to write: phonological awareness, syntactic awareness and morphological awareness. Of the three abilities the less studied one is morphological awareness. This study explores the relationship between morphological awareness and orthographic knowledge among primary school children. The results show a association between morphological awareness and the orthographic development of the children. The results are discussed in the light of theories of metalinguistic development and the result’s educational implications.

Palabras clave : Metalinguistic awareness; Morphological awareness and literacy.
