Abstract

GEBARA, Carla Ferreira de Paula  and  LOURENCO, Lélio Moura. Health professionals beliefs about domestic violence against children and adolescents. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2008, vol.2, n.1, pp. 27-39. ISSN 1982-1247.

The following research is intended to outline the profiles of health professionals in Lima Duarte, as well as their beliefs about domestic violence and its connection with alcohol and drugs. It is based on a semi-structured, individual and confidential questionnaire answered by 41 professionals. The data collected was studied with the content analysis technique and revealed the professionals tendency to consider alcohol, drugs and social-economic situation as important factors of domestic violence against children and teenagers. The results of the research also made it clear that there is dire necessity for effective institutional interventions in Lima Duarte, since there is no project intended to prevent domestic violence, neither a programme capable of preparing health professionals to deal with this issue.
