Abstract

The social phobia is characterized by fear / anxiety front social situations. The majority of patients with social anxiety disorder suffer of other psychiatric disorders. The most commonly comorbidities found are: anxiety disorders, depression, disorders caused by substance abuse. This research consisted of 56 patients of the CPA-UFJF and aimed to verify the association between social phobia and alcoholism. There were used three instruments: AUDIT, BAI and Liebowitz Scale for Social Anxiety. Although the literature demonstrates the relationship between these two disorders, the results did not reveal a significant correlation between the consumption of alcohol and level of anxiety.
