Abstract

Stress can be considered one of the most critical health problems of modern society. Special needs people’s parents are more vulnerable to this problem. The current studies investigated parents stress characteristics and describe coping strategies used for them. The ISS-LIPP and the Coping Strategies Inventory were applied to 11 parents of people with special needs that were attended in an institucion. Most participants had significant stress symptoms. Two of them were in the quasi exhaustion stage and seven participants were in the resistance stage. Five participants had phisycal and psychological symtoms and four had only psychological symptoms. The coping strategy more used was problem solving and the less used was distancing. There wasn't significantily diferences between coping strategies used for parents with and without stress.
