Abstract

DELAGE, Paulo Elias Gotardelo Audebert  and  NETO, Marcus Bentes de Carvalho. An Alternative Model of Operant Teaching: The Recombinative Learning. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2010, vol.4, n.1, pp. 50-56. ISSN 1982-1247.

Behavior Analysts have considered shaping as the very most important behavioral teaching technique. Nevertheless, there are other different ways of installing a new complex response without necessarily teaching the final response in a direct and step-by-step way. The present paper presents a model of spontaneous recombination (recombinative or generative learning) of responses previously and independently taught (not directly trained). This model was used here to install a response chain: (a) step up in a box and (b) pull a chain, by a albinic rat (Rattus norvegicus). It also discusses the characteristics of each kind of learning (shaping and recombinative), as well as the implications of the model presented for understanding ontogenetic behavioral patterns called creative or original.

Keywords : Recombinative learning; generative learning; shaping; insight; rattus norvagicus.
