Abstract

GONDIM, Sonia Maria Guedes; BORGES-ANDRADE, Jairo Eduardo  and  BASTOS, Antonio Virgílio Bittencourt. Work and Organizational Psychology: Scientific Production and Methodological Challenges. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2010, vol.4, n.2, pp. 84-99. ISSN 1982-1247.

This article discusses the scientific knowledge in the subfield of psychology of work and organizations, and points to the methodological challenges surrounding this subarea of knowledge. The subarea has three features: 1) the multi and interdisciplinary domain, 2) the constant tension between demands to understand psychological processes and to solve problems that challenge organizations, managers, workers and individuals who formulate labor public policies; 3) the multiple levels of analysis (individual, group, social and governmental) of daily questions surrounding workers and managers. It starts by defining concepts. The next section argues in favor of the relationship between growth and diversification of the subarea and the expansion of graduate programs in Brazil. An overview of national and international scientific reviews follows, in order to highlight the diversity in research practices. Finally, the paper discusses methodological challenges to achieve higher levels of scientific maturity.

Keywords : Research methods; organizational psychology; postgraduated training.
