Abstract

The article describes the methodological procedures used in the field of historical studies in psychology, pointing to its derivatives of general methods of historiography and history of science on the one hand, and the interactions between the human sciences, psychology and history, on the other. Furthermore, the article indicates how the history of psychology emerges in the field comprised by the two strands of history of psychological knowledge and scientific psychology. In this context, the article discusses the relationship between historical work, preservation and memory; the existence of several methodological approaches dependent on the diversity of the chosen objects; the importance of sources and genres as their primary tools of research. Finally, the paper deals with the procedure for writing the history of psychology.
