NAKASU, Maria Vilela Pinto. Frontiers of Sublimation: Notes on the Development of the Concept. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.1, pp. 50-60. ISSN 1982-1247.

The concept of sublimation is extensive, full of meaning, cutting edge, moving between the theory of sexuality, the theory of the ego and its defenses, drive theory, the theory of culture and character formation. This work aims to demonstrate that the basis of the concept of sublimation had been consolidated in 1905 with the development of childhood sexual theory, and expanded with the development of the theory of drives. We suggest, first, that sublimation gradually becomes a concept of many definitions. Second, the references to culture are crucial in the development process of sublimation: it is relevant to the individual drive satisfaction and psychological health of civilized man.

Palavras-chave : Psychoanalysis; Freud; sublimation; culture.
