Abstract

LIMA, Ricardo Franco de; AZONI, Cíntia Alves Salgado  and  CIASCA, Sylvia Maria. Attention and Executive Functions in Children with Developmental Dyslexia. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.2, pp. 208-219. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5327/Z1982-1247201300020009.

National studies on Developmental Dyslexia (DD) that investigate other cognitive domains, besides language, are scarce. This study aimed to compare the performance of children with DD and children without learning disabilities in instruments that assess attention and Executive Functions (EF). Sixty-one children, with average age of 9.7 years, divided into group with DD and control group participated in the study. The used instruments were: subtests of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Cancellation Test, Trail Making Test, Stroop Test, Tower of London Test, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and Verbal Fluency. The results showed differences between the groups, suggesting that children with DD may have impairments in attention and components of EF. The findings also suggested that children with DD present different patterns of visual scanning and selection of executives resources, mainly in front of stimulus with verbal content.

Keywords : Neuropsychology; dyslexia; attention; executive function.
