Abstract

MEDEIROS, Emerson Diógenes de et al. Happiness Scale from Lima: factorial validity and internal consistency. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.2, pp. 150-158. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5327/Z1982-1247201400020004.

The study aimed to investigate the factorial validity and internal consistency of Happiness Scale from Lima. The sample was formed by 200 university students with an average age of 20.5 years (standard deviation - SD=3.84, ranging from 16 to 41 years old), mostly female (52.8%). A confirmatory factor analysis, adopting the method of estimation (maximum likelihood - ML), was used in order to corroborate the four-factor structure, which showed acceptable fit indices (chi-square/degrees of freedom=1.76; Goodness-of-Fit Index=0.84; Adjusted Goodness-of-Fit Index=0.81; Comparative Fit Index=0.89, Root-Mean-Square Error of Approximation (90%CI)=0.06; Expected Cross Validation Index=3.18 and Consistent Akaike Information Criterion=891.71) and satisfactory internal consistency coefficients (Cronbach's α) in its 4 factors (range from 0.65 to 0.90). It was concluded that this instrument meets adequate psychometric evidence, being its use recommended in further studies.

Keywords : scales; happiness; statistical validity; test reliability.
