Abstract

BRITO, Ariane de  and  FARO, André. Parental stress: Systematic review of empirical studies. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.1, pp. 64-75. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24879/201600100010048.

This research describes the characteristics of national publications on parental stress, indexed in two Brazilian electronic bases data and free access (SciELO and PePSIC). The full text of eleven empirical articles were analyzed in terms of their methods (participants and instruments), objectives and main results. The results indicated that most of the national production on parental stress focuses on maternal stress and children with some medical condition, and there is a lack of valid and reliable instruments to the Brazilian context to measure the phenomenon in different populations. Stressors present in the parental context may influence parental stress level, while the received social support can assist fathers/mothers to cope adaptively with stressful overload.

Keywords : stress; parenting; parent child relations; literature review.
