To perform a systematic review on elderly character strengths (CS), articles reporting empirical research indexed by PsycINFO or PubMed were recovered (N=31). Texts published between 1998 and 2014 that investigated samples with individuals aged 65 years or more were selected. It was found that: the growth of scientific literature on the subject is not significant; most articles examine the relationship between CS and other variables; and only one specifically discusses one CS in old age. It is concluded that the scientific literature on elderly CS is restricted. When included, the elderly represent just one age cohort of the sample and not considered their specificities. Since identify and develop the elderly CS contribute to the positive aging, further investigations are necessary.
