Abstract

CUNICO, Sabrina Daiana  and  ARPINI, Dorian Mônica. Meanings of paternity by female monoparental families. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.2, pp. 40-48. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24879/201600100020058.

The present study aimed to know the meanings attributed to paternity by women heads of households. This study was composed by ten women from lower class groups, who constituted a monoparental family. The semi-structured interview was one of the data collection instruments, together with the focus groups. The material collected was evaluated by the content analysis, which supported the appearance of categories of analysis. The results showed, in a general way, the coexistence of traditional and modern conceptions relative to the meanings attributed to paternity. Furthermore, we evidenced a tendency to expansion of paternity model, in which the father as well as family provider is recognized by your presence and affection, in order to rescue the importance of the father’s presence in the family environment.

Keywords : fatherhood; family relations; parenthood.
