The purpose of this article is to discuss the relationships between Community Health and Community Psychology into perspective of participation and the liberation processes and their contribution in the construction of participative methodologies. Both areas share values and practices that have liberation and participation as principles that contribute in the construction of spaces that break with the processes of oppression. The community is the main actor and the focus is more on health processes than on disease processes. The participative methodologies as the community walk, the home visit and in the circle of culture provide a practice consistent with these principles. The involvement of health professionals and residents of communities favors health and autonomy processes.
