The present research had as objective to know the difficulties and coping strategies for permanence in Higher Education of students linked to the ProUni Program, which proposes the democratization of access and permanence to higher education. Seven students of Psychology, of both sexes, with an average age of 22 years, enrolled in a University of the coast of Santa Catarina participated in the research. The results were treated qualitatively, the research was based on the techniques Group Focus and Interview Semiaberta. Data were analyzed according to 3 thematic categories. Among the difficulties to remain in university, one has to finance and reconcile work and studies, respectively. As coping strategies we have the help of friends and family as the most relevant
