SILVA, Emily Ribeiro da  e  PEREIRA, Melina Carvalho. The child in focus: talking about parental practices and negotiation strategies. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.3, pp. 53-61. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24879/2018001200300478.

This study considers the child as a social being and producer of culture. In spite of the still existing adultcentrism, recent changes in intrafamilial relationships have contributed to the child’s increasing participation in family decision-making processes. Thus, investigated how children understood, assessed and dealt with educational practices, and their negotiation strategies. Sixteen children, aged 7 to 10 years, participated in this qualitative research, which included semi-structured individual interviews, focus groups and later content analysis. Most said they had already made choices in the family context and felt satisfied with it. Peaks of authoritarianism, permissiveness, and inconsistencies among parental figures were perceived by infants. In this way, the study provides subsidies to advance the quality of parental relationships.
