Abstract

MESSIAS, Maria Cláudia Novaes  and  JACO-VILELA, Ana Maria. Gender and power relations in Belle Époque: between speeches and practices. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.3, pp. 84-93. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24879/2018001200300522.

This work seeks to analyze the gender and power relations that crossed the experiences of women in the period known as Belle Époque, between 1889 and 1922, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, being the result of a review of the literature. From the social, political, economic and cultural context of the city, we analyze the social spaces and discourses available to the women of the time, seeking to understand the multiple faces of being a woman that accompanies the social fabric of this plot. Thus, the female question is discussed from the point of view of physicians, the problem of education, the family ideal and work “outside the home”. The theoretical-methodological perspective of this work is inserted in the field of women’s history and gender relations.
