Adoption is a way of protecting children and adolescents' fundamental rights, thus the importance of being a process filled with attention from all of the engaged, minimizing the risks of failure. The present study has the objective of presenting experiences and emotions involved in a failed adoption case. It is a qualitative and cross-sectional single case study, of which participated one adolescent and her adopters. The adolescent answered to a semi-structured interview and to the Family Drawing, whereas the adopters answered to the interview. This study's results indicate that the development of the filiation and parenthood processes are fundamental for the establishment of family relationships and for achieving success regarding the adoption process.
