Abstract

BERNARDINO, Leonardo Gomes; OLIVEIRA, Felipe Santos de  and  MORAES JR., Rui de. The role of emotion in time perception: a systematic review. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.3, pp. 206-230. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34019/1982-1247.2020.v14.30383.

The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate empirical studies published between 2015 and 2019, which investigated the effects of emotion on time perception. The descriptors "time perception" and "emotion" were used in the databases PubMed, BVS, PsycINFO and Science Direct. The analysis of 31 papers showed the prevalence of the (1) temporal bisection task, (2) use of visual scenes with negative emoticons, and (3) arousal and attention as components of Pacemaker-Accumulator (PA) model to explain the data. The review also revealed the proposition of new theoretical models, which need to be verified in future research.

Keywords : Time perception; Emotion; Arousal; Attention; Theoretical models.
