BRITO, Eduardo José Esteves  e  PONCIANO, Edna Lúcia Tinoco. Body, mind, and self: a theoretical articulation focused on emotional regulation. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2021, vol.15, n.3, pp. 1-24. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34019/1982-1247.2021.v15.31043.

Traditionally, emotional regulation is understood by the definition of mind separated from the body. We propose a discussion in a historical-conceptual perspective, which identifies the Top-down and Bottom-up models, in order to highlight a critical view and point out a theoretical proposal for body/mind/Self articulation, with focus on Emotional Regulation. Implementing a narrative literature review based on classical texts and modern studies, by highlighting the Bottom-up model, mind and Self can be connected to the body and to the physical sensations considered part of the regulatory process. We found: the persistency of the mind-body problem; the necessity to rethink the ideas about mind, Self, and emotions, relating them to body and environment; and the necessity to keep implementing critical analysis on the Top-down and Bottom-up models. We finish by highlighting the construction of an integrative model between body, mind, and Self to define Emotional Regulation.
