This research aimed to investigate the parental perception about the repercussions of the child with autism on family adaptation. A sociodemographic questionnaire and an interview script were applied to nine couples who are linked to a service for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and subsequently Bardin's content analysis was used. The main difficulties are related to the characteristics of the ASD and concerns related to inclusion and prejudice. On the other hand, social support of the spouse and the extended family and access to health services help in the family adaptation process.
