Abstract

BRANCO, Paulo Coelho Castelo. The clinical research coordinated by Carl Rogers: methodological considerations and repercussions. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.2, pp. 1-24. ISSN 1982-1247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34019/1982-1247.2022.v16.31533.

This article analyzes the academic research programs on clinical interventions aimed at personality change, developed by Rogers. In Brazil, this scientific legacy is not very disseminated due to the lack of translation of his methodological works. It presents how he structured the program in Chicago and, then, evaluated his therapy with schizophrenics in Wisconsin. It reflects upon its repercussions on Rogers' career and thinking. It points out that this legacy is developed outside of Brazil and has inspired some behavioral and cognitive currents. However, nationally, another experiential-relational legacy predominates, which restricts Rogers' scientific heritage. It considers some ways to expand the Rogerian research.

Keywords : Carl Rogers; Methodology; Scientific research; Clinical psychology; Client centered therapy.
