Abstract

The ICU is an iatrogenic environment in which the patient is subject to several stressful situations, among them the process of ventilatory weaning. The objective was to analyze the psychological interventions directed to these patients. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five hospital psychologists. The content analysis was used for the interpretation of data. The results showed the following categories: 1. Emotional and organic aspects; 2. Psychological interventions; 3. Performance with the multiprofessional team; 4. Performance with family. It is concluded that the hospital psychologist can contribute to the humanization of ICU care and reducing the patient's anxiety in this process.
