Abstract

The term Social Representation is defined as a set of concepts, assertions and explanations originally taken from a daily routine, seen as common sense knowledge, shared among human relationships. Based on this definition the present study aims to identify the Social Representation of Psychology professionals from the patient's perspective, having as contributors the users of a University Clinic, in the city of Taquara/RS. A qualitative approach research was used adlouring to a deep compreension of the phenomenon. For this study, a content analisys was conducted in 22 questionaires completed by people that arrived for the first interview at the center of psychology services -CESEP. The applied questionnaire was composed of open questions inquiring about the meaning of the Psychologist role, targeting a compilation of issues concerning the professional of Psychology field and their work. Both float reading and appreciation were applied over all the gathered information to extract elements that would join a set of categories corresponding to the Social Representation of the psychologist professional in this context. Results evidenced aspects related to understanding, guiding, listening, and orientation in the resolution of problems or conflicts over different arenas of ones lives. These considerations, regarding positive aspects, corroborate previous findings and will be used to guide future studies in various contexts of Social Representation
