Abstract

SCORSOLINI-COMIN, Fabio. Counseling psychology for couples: a dialogue between Positive Psychology and the person-centered approach. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.2, pp. 192-206. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2014.72.07.

Counseling Psychology offers support for Couples Therapy in educational programs on conjugality. The aim of this theoretical study is to discuss the elements that may compose an intervention among couples in the psychological counseling modality, under the Positive Psychology and Person-Centered Approach frameworks. For the Person-Centered Approach, the human being seeks increasing autonomy and Positive Psychology valorizes humans' own capacities and personal strength. Given this dialogue, a possible intervention would consider the access on the couple's beliefs, resilience, strengthening capacities and personal resources, building strategies for dealing with problems, taking responsibility for their changing process and reformulating expectations towards the future. It is possible to comprehend Counseling Psychology for couples as a proposal that aims to restore, in each one and on the dyad, the tendency for growth and openness to well being. Empirical research must be conducted in order to offer support to these considerations.
