PALOSKI, Luis Henrique  e  CHRIST, Helena Diefenthaeler. Cognitive behavioral therapy for depression with psychotic symptoms: a theoretical review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.2, pp. 220-228. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2014.72.09.

The present article investigated the applicability of cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of depression with psychotic symptoms. Initially, we contextualized the relation between the psychotherapeutical modality and depression. After that, the diagnostic guidelines of the disorder were presented with its cognitive conceptualization. Then, cognitive behavioral therapy techniques suggested for the treatment of major depressive disorder with psychotic symptoms were presented. For this, we developed a research on scientific literature on the subject, through a non-systematic review in major databases in the Health Sciences area, and we also researched reference textbooks on the subject. We found innumerable studies about the applicability of cognitive behavioral therapy in treating depression without psychotic symptoms in the clinical literature. However, there are few studies addressing the use of this therapeutic approach with depressed patients who develop psychotic symptoms. Thus, this study aimed to gather the studies covering methods of intervention with patients diagnosed with psychotic depression. With this study, it can be inferred that there is a need for further research on management techniques using a cognitive behavioral approach for depressed patients with psychotic symptoms.
