Resumen

BARRETO, Isabella Soares  y  TEODORO, Maycoln Leôni Martins. Behavioral and emotional problems, cognitive vulnerability and stress: a narrative review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.1, pp. 37-58. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2018.111.04.

Dysfunctional cognitions and stressful events play an important role in the development of depressive symptomatology in adults, but research on this relationship in childhood and adolescence and its application to different symptoms are not yet fully conclusive. Therefore, in order to analyze such evidence, a literature review about the vulnerability-stress dyad was carried out as a risk factor for the development of emotional and behavioral problems. The review was conducted in May, 2016 in the following article databases: Pubmed, PsycINFO and ScienceDirect. The inclusion criterion was: the availability of abstracts in the databases, sample composed of children or adolescents, and having as main objective to investigate the relationship between cognitive beliefs, stressors and emotional and behavioral problems. Thirty-four articles that addressed the issue were found and indicate positive evidence of the diathesis-stress model, especially for internalizing symptoms. Further studies should cover exiniternalizing symptoms, adopt a developmental perspective and investigate possible protective factors.

Palabras clave : diathesis-stress; behavioral and emotional problems; child.
