Abstract

NEUMANN, Angélica Paula; WAGNER, Adriana  and  REMOR, Eduardo. Couple relationship education program "living as partners": participants' profile and indicators of compliance. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.1, pp. 256-281. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.121.11.

Couples relationship education programs are strategies destined to promote the improvement of love relationships and foster more satisfactory and stable relationships. This study characterizes 65 heterosexual couples who signed in to the couple relationship education program "Living as partners: Turning challenges into opportunities" regarding sociodemographic, relational and motivational data. It also investigates the differences between those who completed and those who abandoned the program. Descriptive analyses were executed to describe participants' characteristics. Non-parametric tests were performed to compare the couples who concluded and abandoned the program. The results indicated that couples of different sociodemographic and relational characteristics signed in to the program. Couples who abandoned the program discussed more often about infidelity, lack of trust or lies, and use of alcohol, cigarettes or other drugs. It has been concluded that the program seems to attract a varied audience in terms of socioeconomic status and marital quality, but distressed couples tend to require individualized care.

Keywords : marital relations; marital conflict; psychosocial intervention.
