Abstract

REICHERT, Amanda Munique  and  KRINDGES, Cris Aline. Women victims of physical violence in childhood and the repercussions on motherhood in adulthood. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 431-450. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.122.03.

This study aimed to investigate the behavioral, emotional and psychosocial consequences in women who suffered physical intrafamily violence in childhood and the repercussions in the maternal relation in adulthood. It is known that childhood is a crucial period of human development and the experiences of these early years of life will be representative throughout life. The design used was qualitative exploratory from a study of collective cases. The study included four women over the age of 18 who were users of the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS). They had been physical violence victims in the intrafamilial context during childhood and went through the process of motherhood in adulthood. As a tool for data collection, a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used. The data collection took place in the CAPS premises with meetings with each participant. The analysis of the interviews was guided by the thematic content analysis method. The results showed that all the participants had negative repercussions in the behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial aspects, to a lesser or greater intensity. Participants who experienced polyvictimization had the negative consequences intensified. In addition, it was possible to identify that becoming a mother was influenced by situations of violence in childhood. The results show increased care in the maternal relationship in adulthood in order to compensate for the lack of care in the childhood itself. However, difficulties appeared in the demonstration of affection towards the children.

Keywords : physical violence; childhood; maternal relationship.
