ALVES, Carolina Martins Pereira  e  SERRALHA, Conceição Aparecida. Emotional repercussions in individuals who have siblings with disabilities: an integrative review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 476-508. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.122.05.

Fraternal relationships permeated by the disability of one sibling may impose adaptations and demands on individuals with typical development. The present integrative review aimed to understand how the academic productions of the last 10 years have portrayed the feelings and needs, regarding the fraternal relationship and the family dynamics, of individuals with typical development who have siblings with disabilities. Twenty-one 21 national and international articles were analyzed. Despite the cultural multiplicity of the studies, many similar results were observed, such as the ambivalence found in the repercussions on the subjectivity of these siblings, the family dynamics, and the concerns about the future. Interpersonal interests and possibilities of leisure are also affected from the diagnosis of disability and that requires new adaptations and configurations associated with the conditions imposed by the disabled sibling. The siblings also reported experiences of prejudice and stigma. All the analyzed articles end with suggestions of intervention and care proposals to these siblings, with implications for professionals in the areas of health, education, and social assistance. We noted the importance of the creating a space to listen to the sibling of the disabled person, with the improvement of social support resources for adequate assistance.
