BRAUN, Karen Cristina Rech; MARCILIO, Fabiane Cristina Pereira; CORREA, Mikael Almeida  e  DIAS, Ana Cristina Garcia. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: a systematic review of the literature. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 617-635. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.122.11.

The Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has been considered an exclusive childhood disorder for a long time. In recent years, research has shown that about 70% of cases diagnosed in childhood present symptoms throughout life. Untreated children with ADHD may continue to present symptoms in adolescence, which justifies the need to identify and evaluate interventions for adolescents. Therefore, this study aims to characterize interventions based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for adolescents with ADHD. A systematic review was made on five databases, combining keywords ("TDAH", "ADHD", "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder"), ("TCC" "CBT" "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy") and ("adolescents", "adolescent", "teens") in the subject field. . From 272 papers identified, only 7 met inclusion criteria. Most of the interventions analyzed referred to individual psychotherapy, with a number of sessions ranging from 10 to 20. Five therapeutic strategies were identified as more frequent: psychoeducation; organization and planning of time and activities; parental engagement in treatment; motivational interview; and reduction of distracting stimuli and procrastination. Results show the efficacy of CBT interventions for this population. No empirical studies were found that tested CBT based interventions for adolescents with ADHD in Brazil, suggesting the need to adapt or create specific protocols for this public in this country. In conclusion, international literature provides psychologists and psychiatrists with important information for the adoption of CBT-based treatment protocols for adolescents with ADHD, as they detail the target audience, treatment objectives, procedures, and intervention outcomes.
