Abstract

GONCALVES, Francisca Valda; CARDOSO, Nicolas de Oliveira  and  ARGIMON, Irani Iracema de Lima. Intervention strategies for adolescents in school bullying situations: a systematic review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 636-658. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.122.12.

Bullying among adolescents is a serious social and public health problem that requires intervention strategies to help preventing it. This systematic review aimed to investigate the types of interventions that can be used with adolescents in situation of school bullying. Searches for papers were made in may 2018, with the string "Bullying" AND "Intervention" AND "School" AND "Adolescents", in three electronic databases: Virtual Health Library (VHL), US National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health (PubMed) e American Psychological Association Database (PsycNET). A total of 1784 articles were found, but 19 studies remained after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. It was observed that intervention strategies for bullying can be divided in three types: 1) intervention strategies mediated by teachers and school staff, 2) intervention strategies mediated by outsider professionals, 3) intervention strategies mediated by students. We found that the first two types of intervention show strategies with good evidence of efficacy in reduction of behaviors related to school bullying. Only three studies suggested interventions mediated by the students, but they did not present high levels of efficacy.

Keywords : Bullying; intervention; adolescents.
