Confronting and resilient processes in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 659-684. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) associated with hemodialysis implies changes in the life of the patient that has an impact on their quality of life. However, resilience can promote a new meaning and life opportunities for the patient. The aim of the study was to understand the aspects involved in the confronting and resilient processes of hemodialysis patients. The qualitative research was performed in a public hospital in Recife-PE, with participation of 15 patients (eight females and seven males). The instruments used were a socio demographic and clinical questionnaire and semi-structured interview, analyzed through descriptive statistics and thematic categorical analysis. Participants were between 23 and 89 years old, with a dialysis treatment time ranging from 8 months to 27 years. From the interviews, two thematic classes emerged: Experiences related to chronic kidney disease and Resilience Processes. It was verified that the illness marks a rupture in the life of the individual and, commonly, the patients establish a dual relation with hemodialysis (life x prison). Faced with risk factors, the protective factors help in the process of resilience reducing the negative impact of the disease, facilitating, for some of these patients, the re-signification of the experience and overcoming it.
