ZANCAN, Natália et al. History of violence and Disorders of Extreme Stress not Otherwise Specified (DESNOS) in women. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2019, vol.12, n.2, pp. 685-705. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2019.122.14.

Being a victim of different forms of violence during life can be associated to the commitment of the victim's mental health. In this way, the present study aims: a) To verify the presence and frequency of child maltreatment in women who have suffered violence perpetrated by the intimate partner; b) To evaluate the presence of symptoms and diagnosis of Disorders of Extreme Stress not Otherwise Specified (DESNOS; c) To investigate the association between child maltreatment, intimate partner violence and symptoms of DESNOS; d) To verify if women who reported higher rates of child maltreatment exposure have higher levels of symptom severity of DESNOS than those who reported having experienced lower rates. It is a quantitative, descriptive, correlational, comparative and cross-sectional study. Participants were 52 women with a mean age of 33.15 years (SD = 9.97). The instruments applied were: a) Sociodemographic data sheet; b) Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ); c) Revised Conflict Tatic Scale (CTS2); d) Structured Interview for Disorders of Extreme Stress (SIDES-R). The results indicated that all participants were victims of some form of child maltreatment. It was possible to identify that 31% of the sample met the diagnostic criteria for DESNOS. However, none of the dimensions of child maltreatment history and intimate partner violence were associated with symptom severity or the diagnosis of DESNOS. Future studies should investigate the relationships between the history of violence experienced by the victims and the development of DESNOS.

Palabras clave : child maltreatment; violence against women; DESNOS.
