This study sought to know the perception of Adoption Support Group members about this experience. It was a qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interviews which have been analyzed by the content analysis. Eight members of the Adoption Support Group in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul took part in this study. The results show that adoption applicants and adoptive parents seek the group to deepen their knowledge about adoptive parenting, as well to relieve the anxiety triggered by the process. Also, the members noticed that the group act to ensure the rights of institutionalized children and adolescents, stating the realization of lots of projects and the search for the right of family interaction. Therefore, the group works on behalf of adoptive parenting and creating a new adoption culture. The final considerations point the importance of producing new thematic knowledge once this can help in the process of preparing applicant, parents, and all involved in the adoption process.
