Abstract

COLTRO, Beatriz Pires; PARAVENTI, Larissa  and  VIEIRA, Mauro Luís. Relationships between Parenting and Social Support: An Integrative Literature Review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.1, pp. 244-269. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2020.131.12.

The social relations established by the parental figures affect the quality of parenting. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific literature on the relationship between parenting and perceived social support in studies with families of children aged 4 to 12 years. For this purpose, an integrative literature review was carried out without time limit, with descriptors in Portuguese, English and Spanish, in the databases LILACS, Index Psicologia, PsycInfo, PubMed, SciELO, SCOPUS and Web of Science. 15 complete indexed articles were selected to compose the final corpus of analysis. The results indicated the predominance of production of studies: in the last 10 years, in the United States of America, with theoretical contextual models, with transversal method and mother participants as respondents. The instruments used to assess parenting and perceived social support proved to be diverse, and the main analyzes used were Pearson's correlation, hierarchical regression and the modeling of structural equations. No Brazilian study was found. It was found that perceived social support indirectly and directly influences parenting and, in most studies, resulted as a protective factor for parenting.

Keywords : parenting; social support; integrative review.
