SOVERAL, Caroline de Menezes  e  SILVEIRA, Michele Marinho da. Quality of life and prevalence of depressive symptoms in elderly women with chronic pain. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.2, pp. 572-589. ISSN 1983-3482.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2020.132.10.

This study sought to assess the quality of life and the prevalence of depressive symptoms in elderly women with chronic pain. It was a quantitative cross-sectional, descriptive and comparative study in which 65 elderly women with chronic pain (pain group - DG) and without chronic pain (group without chronic pain - GSD) from a municipality in the northern region of Rio Grande were compared do Sul, Brazil. As instruments, a socioeconomic and health questionnaire, the Geriatric Pain Measure (GPM) scale, the Geriatric Depression scale (GDS-15) and the WHOQOL-Bref quality of life scale were used. The prevalence of chronic pain was 52.3% and for these elderly women there was a prevalence of depressive symptoms in 18.4%, whereas in the group without chronic pain 9.2% had these symptoms, but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. However, it can be concluded that even though the prevalence of depressive symptoms is low, elderly women with pain showed less satisfaction with quality of life compared to those without pain.
