ITO, Sidney Issao  and  AZEVEDO, Adriano Valério dos Santos. Social educators in shelters intended for children and adolescents: systematic review. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2021, vol.14, n.1, pp. 276-303. ISSN 1983-3482.

This article aimed to carry out a systematic review of empirical research on social educators in shelters for children and adolescents. The articles available on the platforms (Google Scholar, SciELO, Redalyc, Journals CAPES / MEC, Pepsic and BVS Psicologia Brasil) were consulted to identify the research published in the period from 2015 to 2020. Ten articles included were categorized in five categories: Experience, Bonding, Practice, Mental Disorders, and Training. The importance of educators as social actors and aspects of their needs was highlighted: recognizing affections, as care was presented as a task, and thus, revealed a risk of acquiring an operational and assistant character; initial training based on quality criteria; continuing education with the support and partnership of professionals who have recognized knowledge on the subject and offer psychological and psychiatric assistance services. It is a study theme that allows the analysis of psychosocial aspects for the development of interventions focusing on the needs of social educators.

Keywords : social educator; shelter; institutionalization.
