Abstract

CALAZANS, Roberto  and  GOMIDE, Renata Viana. The psychoanalitic abandonment of psychological realism. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.1, n.1, pp. 42-53. ISSN 1983-8220.

In this article we approach the way in which S. Freud was impelled to abandon the psychological realism when approaching the treatment of the hysteria. The concept of psychological realism according to epistemologist Robert Blanché is discussed. Next, we describe how Freud abandons the realistic conceptions on behalf of a search for the origin of hysteria in the concept of fantasy (Phantasie). Finally, we stress the importance of the concept of fantasy, according to J. Lacan's Seminar on object-relationship, in order to avoid current attempts of reducing the psychoanalytic view to new forms of psychological realism.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; psychological realism; hysteria.
